The musical group Bordemar was created in 1983 in Puerto Montt,
Chile, for Jaime Barría Casanova.
From the start it was envisioned as a group of study, diffusion and
of creation of the instrumental repertory of the music of Chiloé,
from the colonial period to the present day. Their work has taken
them, at different moments in their career into traditional and
chamber music evoking the rich cultural background of the Archipelago.

La Banda Bordemar has travelled through much of Chile and
appeared at many of the principal theaters and at many of the
musical festivals of the country, especially in the Chiloé
Archipelago. It has graced the Municipal Theater of Viña del Mar, at
the Presidential Palace (Palacio de la Moneda), Musical Weeks of
Frutillar, The Residence of the US Ambassador, the Church of St.
Francisco de la Ciudad of Santiago, the Cathedral in Castro
among many other engagements. It has toured in Bariloche, in the
Argentine Republic and has received widespread critical acclaim.

The quintet has participated in programs on Radio and Television
both in Chile and abroad, including Palin¹s Pacific ( BBC, London)
, Identidades (Discovery Channel, USA), Creaciones (UC TV, Chile
) Bellavista 0990, and Tierra Adentro of Chilean National Televison
among others. They have recorded three cassettes and two compact
discs for the Alerce Records: "Colors of Chiloé"; "Bordevals";
"The Interior Sea," and have made more than ten recording with other
.musicians.

They have received prizes from the Associación de Critios y
Comentaristas de Arte commentators from Miami, U.S.A., were nominated
as the best group by the Association of Journalists of Espectaculos
APES from Chile. The Cultural Brotherhood Prize of Chile and
Argentina, Municipal prize of Ancud and Puerto Montt City.

Presenty, The group comprises Jaime BarríaCasanova (piano,
composition), Soledad Guarda Andrade (cello & voice), Fernando
Alvarez Macías (guitar and voice) Catherine Hall ( flute), and
Eugenia Olavarría (violin).
